why can't you hear in space

The tagline for the movie Alien was ‘In space, no one can hear you scream’.

Well, I guess I couldn’t help myself and played with the tagline for my own still movie, called a cartoon.

But seriously, why can’t you hear in outer space? You might recall a recent Frank cartoon, which explored the concept of hearing under water. Well, the key to hearing is to understand that sound requires a ‘medium’ for the vibrations to travel through. In outer space, there isn’t much – no air, no gas… well, there might be the odd gas cloud or two, but the gases within the cloud are spread so far apart that you would need a super sensitive microphone to hear it.

So what’s your favourite tagline or quote from a movie?

Haha, that’s a great comic. Hmm, my favorite tagline. Of course, I can’t think of one now. But I’m sure I will at 3 am when I wake up and can’t get back to sleep… 😉

I still can’t think of a good one… I like a lot of them, though… especially when I can work them into casual conversation unsuspectingly! 🙂

I know how you feel, I’m a bit slow on the spot and then afterwards it hits me and I wish I could turn back time, so I could say, ‘See, I’m clever, I know cool answer, funny too….’

“Get the science out of this” the Martians I watched the movie last night. Great movie.

I finally thought of a good one!

“They say revenge… is a dish… best served, cold… It is very cold… in space!” — Khan, Star Trek II

Ah yeah, now you’re talking. Love a Star Trek quote and movie. I used to watch the series (original) when young with my Dad – it was a father-daughter boding thing I guess, watching sic-fi. It’s a pity we had B&W TV, as all my fond childhood memories of watching TV are in B&W, I feel like a dog (but apparently dogs seeing only B&W is false)

I had a black & white TV in my room for a while growing up. I don’t remember when I got my first color TV. We had a color TV in the living room, just not in my room. I honestly didn’t think anything of it, ’cause that’s the way it was growing up in the 1970s… sometimes you had a B&W TV to watch, sometimes you had color. I imagine there’s a whole generation of people who are confused that their color TVs sometimes have black & white content on them, though!

  • Looking at this very funny cartoon, I’m thinking of the line from the movie Cool Hand Luke: “What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.”

I obviously need to get out more. I haven’t heard of the movie, but the line sounds familiar. Maybe more movie watching will inspire me to make more word play cartoons.
