Couples taking a selfieI love watching people take selfies, it’s a wonderful way to reflect on modern day human behaviour (if I had my time again, I think I would become a behavioural scientist). I’ve observed everything from the ‘make me smirk’, to out right strange. Whatever the selfie scene, many make great sources of cartoon content.

Have you seen a memorable selfie moment recently? Do share and we’ll keep it a secret just between you, me and the internet.

I haven’t witnessed any strange selfies lately, though I did take a picture of my own hand yesterday. It’s for an upcoming blog post, so I think it’s okay then. 😉

Cartoons and funniness aside, I still don’t understand the need for folks to constantly take pictures of themselves everywhere. Even though I don’t do it, I at least get why you would take pictures of places you go and new people you meet… but taking pictures of yourself when you can see you all the time? I see way too much of myself as it is! 🙂

I’m not really into the selfie, but that might be because I’m the owner of a dumb phone that doesn’t seem to do much apart from texting and emails (the non fun work kind). I did have fun with my partner’s phone when were were skiing in Europe. I had enough for the day and took a selfie of myself in front of the Matterhorn, whilst in the ski lift. what a challenge that was trying to line everything – I look like a real dork. I don’t think selfies are a good way of recording one’s true beauty.

Selfie reminds me of “like” buttons, especially the gravatar. Liking a post is similar to leaving my selfie on the site. And I get a kick out of so many likes and not an iota of a comment. hell-oooo…. I think Sally Fields started selfie. Remember her famous speech “You like me, you really like me!”
I’ve seen selfies in various ways and it’s eecky. I prefer to take photos of my feet of places I visited in different parts of the world.

Heya Seeker, I like your ‘selfie’ and ‘like’ analogy – I never thought of it that way. I can see that you’re going through a bit of an anti like phase in your blog, by taking away the feature. I think it does sought out the voyeurs from the real people who want to interact.

Hey Martina, Did you see all the ‘science of selfies’ stuff in the news? For example http://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-25763704. Interesting!!

    • Marti says:

No, I didn’t. Good write up. Sounds like the selfie is here to stay as individuals seek selfie utopia.

  • The couple in the cartoon seem to have figured out a way to be together and keep their individuality. Personally, I’m not a selfie person. I agree with you that they aren’t the best at capturing the best of what a person looks like.

I want to know when “otheries” will catch on! 🙂
