Cafe latte with peanut butter

I couldn’t believe it when I heard a radio advertisement for a coffee and peanut butter latte.

I admit that I can’t call myself a coffee purist as I drink a cafe latte with a spoonful of sugar, but this was stepping over the line.

Have you over stepped that line with coffee or any other food? Or perhaps you witnessed someone else boldly going where no man has gone before. Let me know.

I’m not a coffee drinker, but that even makes me cringe. I’ve never understood the combo of mayonnaise and French fries. But I’m not a huge fan of mayonnaise, so that probably explains it. 🙂

Mayo and fries don’t do it for me either. When I was 12 I lived with my cousins in Germany for 4 months – went to school etc so I could learn the language. We went out every Saturday for the weekly food shop and we would end the shop with a healthy lunch of fries (pommes frites as they call it). The favourite toppings for the Germans was ketchup or mayo. I stuck with artery hardening salt. 🙂

Butter or mustard or ranch dressing on fries is good… at Wendy’s I’ll use the chili with my fries too. I also used to put french fries on my hamburgers.

I have wanted to try a sandwich of refried beans and jelly ever since I noticed that my refried beans + cheddar cheese tasted a little like peanut butter… I feel like refried beans + cheese + maybe grape or cherry jelly ought to taste good.

As an Australian, I find the whole American jelly thing weird. When I first heard of it, I thought it even stranger as we use the word jelly for the wobbly desert made from colour, flavour and gelatine. We call the stuff you put on bread, jam (probably b/c of our english heritage)….Mmmm, refried beans with jelly… I think I’ll wait to hear how it works for you before I try it myself 🙂

For us jelly, jam, and preserves are three kind of different things. What you call “jelly” we call gelatin or by the Jell-O brand name… jelly is a gelatine-like fruit-flavored thicker thing for spreading on toast and such, and it may or may not have natural vs artificial fruit flavoring. Jam is less like jelly and a little more like really ground/mashed/semi-strained fruit, so it’s more likely to contain natural flavoring than artificial and probably will have some tiny bits or seeds (like blackberry or strawberry) in it too… Preserves is thicker still, and is more likely to contain larger pieces and some whole pieces of fruits in it. Preserves would be my absolute favorite, especially if you use it on french toast or pancakes or waffles.

Coffee taste great the way it is. Pointless to have all the fancy addition and ruin the bean. Just cream and sugar for me is perfect.

    • Marti says:

I must admit, I can’t go past cream. It’s like milk with only the best bits left.

I agree! Although I do drink Almond milk lattes…..

    • Marti says:

I think almond milk would work well – so long as it wasn’t in a paste like peanut butter!

  • Wow, I don’t know what to say. A couple days ago a co-worker was saying that peanut butter and coffee is a great combination. Is there a “thing” starting? If there is such a thing, I will pass. Funny cartoon, the latte really does look as scared as it should be!

I tried hunting the web for the store that was offering this, but couldn’t find it. I did find lots of people who has recipes for it, so it must be out there in one way or another.

I enjoyed drawing the latte, I was acting the stances out to try and get the body expression just right – must have looked quite comical from a distance (I was drawing in public, thinking I was in my own little bubble)

Hey hey hey… You are now showing up in my reader. What took you so long, Marti! Oh dear, peanuts will definitely kill the coffee.

Mmm, I must admit I don’t know what’s happening in WordPress land. I’ve had some strange emails come through about set ups. I would have thought I wouldn’t appear in readers as I no longer am with the WordPress.com server, but not to worry – glad to be back! 🙂
