I think everyone has had a washing machine malfunction once in their lives. This cartoon was inspired after a recent wash where I placed a rusty brown towel in the wash with the family’s white socks. Surely towels are colour fast, I thought as I shoved the contents into the front loader. Personally, I don’t mind pink socks. Not sure the like was shared; so I kindly offered family members to take on the rewarding responsibility of washing. No uptake… I can only conclude that they don’t really mind pink socks after all.
When I was a poor college student, every penny counted, so I’d head to the laundromat and wash all my clothes in the same load. Reds, whites, blues, all jumbled together. I’d always wash on cold, and usually there wasn’t a problem. But every now and then white became pink. 🙂
Ah, it makes me feel good knowing that it’s not just me. Cold wash is my thing too, but you’re right, every now and then it backfires.
I can’t remember this happening to me in real life… saw it a lot on TV shows growing up, though. My mother was fairly meticulous about laundry… and whenever I do laundry I’m pretty much the same.
I imagine it’s more difficult if you have several kids, though, for something to sneak into the wrong load of wash.
I would be okay with some color contamination, though, if it ever happened to me. I’d own something semi-unique! 🙂
Unfortunately I can’t blame the kids – too lazy to put clothes in washer, so all my fault pretty much most of the time. Usually I think when washing, so haven’t had a problem in about 5 years
The worse part for laundry days is when the black washed out and I noticed a white cotton underwear was included in the wash. Egad. I hate black underwear.
White is such an unforgiving colour when mixed with colours. I’ve had things go grey too, not sure what’s worse, soft pink or grey
