Poll: Is it time for a freebie?

By Website announcements

Humour me on this one. I wanted to try the ‘polling’ toy in this software to see how it works, plus at the same time, get some feedback from regular subscribers. For those who missed the last freebie, check this link for details.

Modern day Noah and his ‘ark’

By Animals

This one is for my Swiss friends, who currently reside in the only country in the world which has law for mandatory personal nuclear bunkers (or at least access to one, typically through a payment system to a community bunker – what fun that would be)!

Meet the Characters of Just Outside the Box Cartoon

By Website announcements

By popular demand, I’ve been requested to create a character profile page on the home menu. Check it out by clicking here.

At present it champions 3 Just Outside the Box regulars – Bill and Ben the Little Alien Men, Dave the Dot to Dot Dinosaur and Doug the Dung Beetle.  As more characters emerge, I’ll add their profile to it.

If you want to find out more about these little guys, just click that ‘Leave a reply’ box at the bottom of the post and ask a question about one of them (it’s not that hard and you might have a bit of fun by doing so – hint, hint).

Unlike my day job email in tray, I look forward to being inundated with queries for this one!

Chinese water torture for moths

By Insects

So what is it with moths hovering around your porch light at night time anyway? Check out this brief write up on the theory of moth / light attraction in The Straight Dope.

I was particularly impressed with the research techniques of Henry Hsiao, who tied cotton to the tiny legs of some poor little moth, in order to see what it did when subjected to light – all in the name of science!
