Facebook hits the solar systemStumbled upon the Worldometer website when researching how many people lived on planet earth for this cartoon.  Watching the number change before your very eyes is quite mesmerising, but I digress.  A few interesting stats presented on the site include:

  • the population currently alive represents roughly 6% of all people who have ever lived on planet Earth.
  • an estimated 106 billion people have been born since the birth of the homo sapiens
  • the world population is currently growing at a rate of around 1.10% per year (a decline since the 1960’s which peaked at 2%)
