Talking mirrors, eh?
Well, IKEA have done exactly that with their Motivational Mirror. Their research suggested that in the UK
- 49% of the British receive no compliments in an average week
- 43.6 million people in the UK are self-critical about their appearance
- 33% of the nation feel they look their worst before 9am on a Monday morning
The solution to this issue – the talking mirror, which compliments you as you stand in front of it. Take a look at the customers’ reaction as they pass by in this You Tube video. Currently on trial in UK IKEA stores; I guess time will tell if it’s a success or not. I don’t think this one is for me, but it could be a fun way to start the day.
Ha, I love that mirror. I wonder what it would say to me first thing in the morning with my hair sticking up and a scowl on my face. It would have to dig pretty deep to find a compliment for me then…
It makes me wonder how it copes with a shared male/female mirror – I’d hate to be told my beard was looking good, like the man in the store was told. 🙂
Oops. I think my reply went beneath the wrong comment. My bad. 🙂
Looks fine to me
Buzz talks to his mirror… I don’t think it talks back… yet!
In real life, though, I think I would find it disturbing to have a mirror talking back to me.
Ha, yes, good point!
Oooh, I like the ‘yet’ comment.
I’m not too sure how I would take it. In the privacy of your home, it would probably feel fake, but in a public store like IKEA I think it would be a good laugh – maybe because it would be a one off thing.
When my sister was little… the Disney Beauty and the Beast movie came out… and they had a magic mirror toy that came out. You pressed different areas and it said a bunch of different things. I had almost forgotten about that until this post. It was sort-of a talking mirror.
Although I am generally a morning person, I don’t think I want to start my day with a conversation with my mirror. I wonder if people are working on bringing any other fairy tale creations to life. I like the cartoon — Frank has learned an important office politics lesson.
I must admit, I’m with you on that one. I’m not a big fan of the mirror first thing in the morning. the last thing I would want is a conversation with it
Mirror, mirror on the wall. Who is that person behind me watching what I am doing. Huh!
If I have my druthers, I wouldn’t look at myself in the mirror. But I do have a mirror on my wall so I can see who’s behind me at work. Our cubicle is set up facing a wall instead of facing the people. Management wants to see what is on the computer screen.
BTW I saw that ad here in Canada. Hilarious 😛
